A Guyferd Reunion in Chouseishin Gransazer

In 1996 Toho and Capcom collaborated on Tokusatsu hero TV series, Seven-Star Fighting God Guyferd (七星闘神ガイファード). The series followed Gou Kazama, an expert in martial arts, who is kidnapped by the Crown organization, and physically modified to serve their plans in an enhanced form, Guyferd.

He would be accompanied in his journey by Takeo Shiroishi, a scientist who previously worked for Crown, Rei Kujo and her brother Yuu. To learn more about this classic tokusatsu hero TV series, watch episode 70 of our YouTube series.

Seven years after Guyferd's broadcast, Toho launched a new tokusatsu hero TV series, Chouseishin Gransazer (J超星神グランセイザー). This series would center on the battle between the twelve descendants of an ancient alien civilization and the Warp Monarch.

Asuka Shimizu, who previously played Rei Kujo in Guyferd, was cast as one of the protagonists of Gransazer, Sazer Mithras, a member of the Fire Tribe.

Likewise, Shoichiro Akaboshi, who played Takeo Shiroishi in Guyferd, was cast as Professor Ichiro Horiguchi. This led to a reunion of the two actors, and previous Guyferd cast members, in Gransazer.
